This project has several tasks, each with its own specific objectives. One of these tasks is the Sodium Removal Process Development; the first objective of which is to devise, develop, test and evaluate techniques for sodium removal from test specimens and components by the reaction of sodium with alcohol. As a part of the alcohol process development, the following activities are being investigated: (1) reaction rate studies, (2) process control and repeatability, (3) sodium-alcohol reaction chemistry and alcohol regeneration studies, (4) quality control and inspection technique development, and (5) alcohol-sodium removal process safety evaluation (Safety Report and Safety Specification).
