Important new roles for computation in the life sciences are being found in the study of the linear polymers DNA, RNA, and proteins, and in the correlation of the sequence with the structure and function of each. Because of the ease with which DNA sequences can be determined and the definitive and often surprising information contained in the sequences, an explosion of biological information is taking place that will increasingly rely on computers for its analysis and understanding. 4 refs., 2 figs. 1 tab
