We studied the social organization and mating system of Peromyscus maniculatus in the Kananaskis Valley of Alberta by investigating both home range use and mating success. Radiotelemetry indicated that the home ranges of these mice were larger than previously reported for Peromyscus. Male home ranges (mean = 1.2 ha) were significantly larger than female home ranges (mean = 0.6 ha), and male home ranges overlapped multiple female and male home ranges. We identified both mother and father in 11 of 18 families typed with DNA fingerprinting.
