This unit was designed for level 1 Spanish students using the text ¡Exprésate! and the book Hungry Planet: What the World Eats by Peter Menzel and Faith D’Aluisio as a guide. In this unit, students will investigate the relationship between food and culture, the effects of globalization on México and the United States relating to food, and how to give direction in an informal setting. This unit builds upon students’ knowledge of basic Spanish grammar and the geography of Spanish-speaking countries, specifically, México. With the performance task, students will synthesize what they have learned throughout the unit by creating or re-writing a recipe using only what is available to the people of their assigned region.
