From introduction: The U.S. Geological Survey is currently conducting a two-phase investigation designed to provide hydrologic information about the coal-producing area in Miami, Linn, and Bourbon Counties of eastern Kansas (fig. 1). This report presents information to satisfy the objectives of the first phase of the investigation. These objectives are to: (1) assemble and interpret existing hydrologic data; (2) describe the physical and hydrologic environments based on existing data; and (3) determine additional data needed to evaluate the impacts of coal mining on the hydrology of the study area
