When I was asked to serve as guest editor for a special issue of the Israel Journal of Chemistry dedicated to my close friend and colleague Harry Gray, on the occasion of his 80th birthday, the idea of organizing the issue around the theme of “New Frontiers in Bioinorganic Chemistry” immediately came to mind. Harry is without a doubt one of the pioneers of those frontiers, most of whom (in the US, at least), like him, came to the field from more traditional inorganic areas
