This paper studies the joint design problem of a decision feedback equalizer (DFE) transceiver and bit allocation for multi-input multi-output (MIMO) broadcast channels. The design problem is formulated as a transmission rate maximization problem for given power and symbol error rate (SER) specifications. The optimal bit allocation is derived. Under some conditions, to be described later, there exists a particular class of joint triangularization (JT) which can be applied to obtain the optimal broadcast DFE transceiver for the max-rate problem with quality of service (QoS) constraints.
