Background: Poverty is a known determinant of malnutrition, especially in less-affluent countries. However the large variance in malnutrition, prevalence noted across these countries cannot be fully explained by differences in national wealth alone. Therefore, additional socioeconomic factors e.g. inequalities, are likely to also contribute towards this variance.
