RNA interference (RNAi) is a natural sequence-specific mechanism of post-transcriptional gene regulation leaded by short, double stranded RNA fragments e.g. small interfering RNAs (siRNA). Despite its high therapeutic potential, the safe and efficient systemic delivery of siRNAs into a large number of diseased cells to trigger therapeutic gene knockdown remains challenging. Moreover, novel quantitative methods for assessing activity of siRNA-based therapeutic agents in a fast and precise manner are needed.
