Understanding of some clinically significant physical properties of Kerr sealer through investigation of its components

Endodontics.Bibliography included.In the field of root canal therapy the value of a hermetic three dimensional seal is considered by most authorities to be paramount and intrinsic to the success of the treatment. Root canal techniques of today advocate the use of a core material and a viscous sealing agent. One sealing agent which is still widely used and affords its users and their recipients a great deal of success is Kerr sealer (Rickert formula). The purpose of this research effort was to study in great detail the effects which each of the ingredients of Kerr sealer impart on this cement. It was hypothesized that by varying the proportion of each of the ingredients in the powder portion of Kerr sealer 10 and 20%, significant changes in shrinkage, solubility, porosity, flow and film thickness would be detected. Modifications of various accepted methods of testing dental materials as advocated by the American Dental Association were used for these determinations. [TRUNCATED
