The relationship between the leveling-sharpening principle of cognitive control and retroactive inhibition

Thesis (Ph.D.)--Boston UniversityThis study is an investigation of an hypothesized relationship between the leveling-sharpening principle of cognitive control and proneness to interference in memory. Differences in amount of retroactive inhibition for leveling and sharpening groups as a function of degree of meaningful similarity between original and interpolated learning is an additional concern of this investigation. The concept of principles of cognitive control was proposed by Klein and his associates to account for consistencies in the manner that individuals organize stimuli in cognitive tasks.
