For over a decade much effort has gone into educating people about the danger of contracting AIDS through sexual intercourse and persuading them to practice safer sex. Much of this information has been directed toward adolescents because it is believed that they may be particularly likely to engage in unsafe sexual practices, e.g., not using a condom. However, the vast majority of this effort to change behavior has not made use of the vast literature on persuasion that has been generated mostly by social psychologists.
