Understanding risk factors related to the progression of alcohol use and alcohol-related consequences may assist with screening at-risk individuals for targeted intervention. One risk factor related to increased rates of alcohol-related consequences is lower levels of self-regulation. Self-regulation refers to the effortful ability to plan and achieve delayed adaptive outcomes through goal-directed behavior.
