The wake structure behind a solid disk was studied both experimentally and numerically. This study was aimed at better understanding the formation and evolution of the wake structure behind the axisymmetric bluff body. The wake behind a solid disk was observed experimentally in water, with flow visualization techniques, including fluorescent dye, particles and hydrogen bubbles. Both qualitative and quantitative information was obtained by post-processing the video images. A Particle Image Velocimetry software was used to extract quantitative characteristics of the disk wake.
