This study examines four sets of relations for a population of first-year college learners who enrolled in a pre-college program to improve their literacy skills. The study sought to investigate the following four sets of relations: (a) the relation between training in metacognitive development and the gains in metacognitive knowledge among college learners, (b) the relation between metacognitive knowledge and reading and writing proficiency among college learners, (c) the relation between metacognitive knowledge and college learners\u27 locus of control, and (d) the possible combined relation of metacognitive knowledge and locus of control on reading and writing proficiency.
