The Relationship Between Nurses\u27 Self-concept and Nurses\u27 Perceptions of the Benefits of Precepting Nursing Students

This predictive correlational study investigated if a relationship exists between nurses\u27 self-concept and nurses\u27 perceptions of the benefits of precepting nursing students. Twenty-four registered nurses were included in the study and completed the Nurses\u27 Self-Concept Questionnaire and the Intangible Benefits Scale. Data were analyzed using simple linear regression and one way analysis of variance. The major findings of this study indicated that there is a positive relationship between nurses\u27 self-concept and nurses\u27 perceptions of the benefits of precepting nursing students. It was also revealed that nurses\u27 self-concept increases with the number of times one has served as a preceptor. Findings fi-om the study imply that nurse educators may strive to recruit preceptors for nursing students who possess a strong self-concept and has experience in serving as a preceptor
