The purpose of this study was to determine the likelihood of different numbers of drought days per season in ten selected areas of South Dakota using weather data accumulated by the Weather Bureau. Information on the likelihood of drought within the Great Plains is of primary importance for any type of farming. For the prospective irrigation area in central South Dakota such information is essential to determine the extent of irrigation needed and the type of irrigation that will be best adapted to the needs of the area
