This publication is in response to numerous questions regarding the number of farms in different size groups within the State of South Dakota. Particular emphasis is placed upon identification of farms under economic size classifications. Data are presented by areas of the state and by counties. Data has been obtained from the 1949, 1959 and 1969 Census of Agriculture. Data on the economic characteristics of farm families is not readily available and it was therefore determined that census data on farms (as distinguished from farm families) was the most useful kind of data for identification of any economic profile
