The South Dakota Coordinating Committee for Missouri Basin Development appointed a sub-committee to study some of the local impacts of inundation of land in reservoir areas.The purpose of the study was first to get a clear understanding of the local problems arising from the inundation of large areas of land, and secondly, to consider suggestions for improving the rules and procedures used in land acquisition programs. The building of certain dams in the Missouri Basin was given general approval in the Flood Control Act of 1944. Further approval has been given through subsequent appropriations.
