I examined the effects of the anthelmintic drug, ivermectin, on lungworm (Muellerius capillaris) densities, reproductive rates, and survival of lambs of free-ranging bighorn sheep in Custer State Park (CSP), South Dakota. Three distinct ewe herds in CSP allowed for comparisons among ewes given o, l, and 2 treatments of ivermectin. Treatments were given in February and March, 1987, and January and February, 1988. Ivermectin was sprayed on alfalfa hay and ingested by sheep. Within 2 weeks of treatment, densities of lungworm larvae were lower in feces of bighorn sheep that received ivermectin than in control animals.
