Culturally Responsive Teaching

Each individual student that walks into a school, and classroom brings a distinctive character and background. Acknowledging the diversity amongst students, and their experiences to best teach students is the goal of Culturally Responsive Teaching (CRT). Therefore, the purpose of this research is to address the topic of CRT in the elementary school environment and best understand the different cultures that students bring with them. This study addresses two questions: Why is culturally responsive teaching important to incorporate into the classroom? How do teachers implement culturally responsive teaching to best support their students? In order to answer these questions, the researcher studied numerous articles that addressed the topic of CRT, and the implications for inclusion. The researcher found that the benefits of incorporating CRT practices into the classroom create a more safe feeling at school and in the classroom. Students that were in classrooms where CRT practices were implemented showed educational successes especially when involved in the discussion of CRT
