Since the 1979 Islamic Revolution, Iran has been seen as a volatile state. With its strong Islamic beliefs and the potential proliferation of nuclear weapons, Iran is perceived as a threat to Western states. A possible solution for this world tension is for Iran to shift from a theocratic authoritarian state to a democracy. However, the question is: What is the likelihood of Iran someday becoming a democracy? Under what circumstances would Iran move from an authoritarian regime to a democracy?
