The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of Social Media (i.e. Facebook) on self-esteem. Eckles, Roberts, Rose, & Vogel (2014) reported that the more frequently a person uses social media, the lower their self esteem becomes. Those who frequently used Facebook were also the ones to report an increase in both upward and downward social comparisons. Through this correlational study they found that participants with more frequent use of Facebook looked at themselves more poorly and were negative in their self evaluations. This study concluded that there is a negative correlation between frequent Facebook use and self-esteem.
