The history of scientific social psychology is brief compared to that of other disciplines and it is not clear that the field has hit upon the adaptation of science that is best suited to the challenges it faces. This concern has become amplified in recent years as the meaningfulness of effects generated in psychology labs has come under intense scrutiny. Dynamical systems and computational modeling solve many of the methodological issues that have been raised, while offering promise of theoretical integration for the field’s diverse topical landscape.
