“Almost an Island” is a collection of short stories that follow isolated characters as they attempt to find meaningful connections through romance or family. The stories consider the consequences of detachment as characters attempt to engage with, or escape from, reality. Many stories rethink traditional structures, particularly the epistolary form. Other stories work within the genre of magical realism as a means to examine mental illness and childhood.M.F.A.Includes bibliographical reference
