Heart failure (HF) and atrial fibrillation (AF) are chronic diseases with high costs, both in human and monetary terms in the US and the world. While the cost of each disease is high, the cost of the two as comorbid conditions is exceedingly high. To be able to predict, early on, which patients with newly diagnosed AF will go on to develop HF will allow clinicians the opportunity to address the problem and prevent or delay the onset of HF.
