A study of the effects of geology, chemistry, and land use on the distribution of naturally occurring radionuclides dissolved in ground water in the Kirkwood-Cohansey aquifer system in the Coastal Plain of New Jersey was conducted during 1988-89 in all or parts of Atlantic, Camden, Cumberland, Gloucester, and Salem Counties. The Kirkwood-Cohansey aquifer system is composed predominantly of quartz-sand and gravel of the Kirkwood Formation, the Cohansey Sand, and, in some places, the Bridgeton Formation and the Cape May Formation. The Cape May and Bridgeton Formations are predominantly gravel.
