The New Jersey State Chamber of Commerce dedicates this volume to the citizens of New Jersey in the hope that a brief but vital story of the life, industries and resources of the State will stimulate interest in our present opportunities and responsibilities. Washington spent two and one-half years of the Revolution on New Jersey's bloodstained soil. Emergencies have always developed men to meet them and thus in every national crisis the State has borne its full share of the burden.
