The New Jersey municipal land use law: A comprehensive informational symposium, a series of monographs

The Department of Community Affairs through its Division of Local Government Services, Local Planning Assistance Unit, in cooperation with the New Jersey State League of Municipalities and the New Jersey Federation of Planning Officials, have assumed the responsibility for developing and implementing a comprehensive informational program to make local officials involved in the planning process aware of the implications of the new Municipal Land Use Law. Gloucester County College and the planning firm of Alvin E. Gershen Associates are implementing the program. The New Jersey Municipal Land Use Law, approved January 14, 1976, requires a variety of substantive and procedural changes in the planning and zoning processes. Effective August 1, 1976, the Law modifies the role Planning Boards, Zoning Boards of Adjustment and governing bodies will play in the planning process. Local ordinances must be revised no later than February 1, 1977, to coincide with the new enabling legislation. The purpose of the informational program is to provide local officials with the "know how" to do it. As part of the educational program, nine monographs have been prepared. The goal is to present the technical aspects of the new Law in a simplified manner. The monographs do not dwell upon the pro's or con's of the new Law as it compares to the existing enabling statutes, but, instead, cut through the rhetoric and detail the actual operation of the new Law. Graphic representation such as flow charts are included where appropriate
