Development of Mercer County's waterfront: Digest of fall meeting, October 29, 1963

Throughout historic times a busy port has been the key to economic growth and development. Virtually all the big cities of the United States -- like those in other parts of the world -- owe their trade success to the existence of a port. After many years of hard work by local leaders, Mercer County is now definitely on the way to realization of the golden opportunities created by waterborne commerce. Essential aspects of this opportunity were reviewed by a panel of four qualified and well-informed speakers at the 1963 Fall Dinner Meeting of the Industrial Commission. What are the potentials of the 25-foot channel now being dredged to Trenton? What are the possibilities of a 35-foot channel? What will be gained through bi-state operation of "Port Upstream"? How will the Delaware River Basin Compact affect industrial development along the waterfront? How can we plan and zone effectively to assure maximum growth of port-related industry? What can the local community do to help achieve the benefits of marine trade? These and related questions are summarized in this report.
