The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection is committed to implementing a comprehensive, statewide watershed management strategy. Part of that strategy is to determine the assimilative capacity of the state's waterways and to assess the extend of their impairment. In this regard, the Bureau of Freshwater and Biological Monitoring (BFWBM). has been requested to provide evaluation monitoring of waterways currently listed on the state's 303(d) "Impaired Waters" list. The purpose of such sampling is to assess the validity of that impairment designation and to gather information for the eventual design of a sampling program for the development of a Total Maximum Daily Load Model.
