The State of New Jersey, Delaware and Raritan Canal Commission was created by the state legislature and is engaged in marshaling data to be submitted to a special board of army engineers or to any appropriate Congressional committee in support of the proposed plan to have the federal government take over, improve and operate the Delaware and Raritan Canal.The great public interest manifested by municipalities along the Atlantic Sea-coast, shippers, industries, marine concerns, and pleasure boat organizations indicate the vital need for adoption in the near future of a plan to improve and operate the canal substantially along the lines herein after described.
