Bulletin (New Jersey Geological Survey) 77

This bulletin is an outgrowth of a group discussion focused on hydrogeological work being conducted in the Newark Basin, an Early Mesozoic basin filled with fractured sedimentary and igneous bedrock located in eastern Pennsylvania, central New Jersey, and southwest New York State. Discussion revealed there is a lack of awareness and availability of information being collected by investigators including the diversity of processes studied, the competing views concerning major controls on groundwater flow, flux and quality, and the various advanced tools and techniques currently used to understand these controls. A regional workshop was convened to address some of these needs on November 11-12, 2004. The Bulletin contains six articles and four appendices from that workshop detailing geological research conducted in the Newark Basin during the past 30 years. The first two articles focus on traditional geological aspects including the stratigraphic framework and bedrock composition and analyses and descriptions of secondary minerals filling aquifer pores and the remaining four articles focus on hydrogeological topics
