The major geologic facts about this region have been known for many years. For the most part, this knowledge is a result of investigations made under the direction of the New Jersey State Geologist and published in the Bulletins and Annual Reports of the Geological Survey of New Jersey. Publications of the Topographic and Geologic Survey of Pennsylvania and various scientific journals also contain information which relates directly or indirectly to the geology of the region. The emphasis in these publications has been on those geologic formations which are surfieially extensive and of economic importance.
