Isaac T. Nichols was a member of the New Jersey senate, where he represented Cumberland County. In this book Nichols mapped the historical and political events in New Jersey during the Civil War, documented its impact on the state of New Jersey and involvement of New Jersey citizens in the war effort. The book contains a great number of portraits of both regular citizens and local leading politicians. The book tracked a strong anti-slavery sentiment
