White Lake Natural Resource Area is extremely important due to ocurrences of globally rare elements including the Northern metalmark butterfly, three limestone fen communities, a limestone forest community, and seven limestone pondshore communities. It is also home to a diversity of bird, butterfly, and amphibian species. White Lake is being threatened by home development and invasive species.
