Commercial Fishing Industry: Marketing Potential in the New York-New Jersey Region

The Projects Group of the Regional and Economic Development Task Force undertook this study to examine the reasons for the commercial fishing industry's general decline, to review recent government policies and economic forces that are expected to reverse this decline, and to suggest a strategy for the region that would take advantage of these recent developments. This study was not intended to develop an exhaustive analysis of all the factors involved, but rather to set the framework whereby further detailed studies could be based. The report recommends that the Port Authority declare as a policy that it is vitally interested on behalf of the region in fostering development of the commercial fishing industry and its related activities, and escalate its commitment to continuing studies leading toward actual development.Purpose: To study reasons and policies related to the commercial fishing industry in the New York-New Jersey metropolitan area
