Final Report of the State Geologist, Volume I: Topography, Magnetism, Climate

The first volume of the Report of the State Geologist, published in 1888, includes a geodetic survey, fixing the longitudes and latitudes of various locations in the state. This is followed by the topographic survey, or physical description of the state's landscape, including detailed descriptive reports of elevations, forests, water, wetlands and marshes and cleared land, physical and legal boundaries of counties; population and demography, a discussion of the use of water power, and locations and descriptions of monuments. The magnetic survey reports on studies of the distribution of magnetic declination in the state. The climate section of the report describes temperature, winds, atmospheric pressure, atmospheric precipitation, sanitary relations (the relation between health and climate), and permanency of climate.Presented by Geo.
