Since 1978, volatile organic compounds (VOCs) have been detected in ground water in three production wells in the Westmoreland well field in the Borough of Fair Lawn, Bergen County, New Jersey. In 1983, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) placed the well field on its National Priority List of Superfund sites.
