New Jersey urban forestry demonstration project: Passaic County natural resource management database development program

Ground water recharge areas do not always coincide with the locales drawing water from a common aquifer. Some coordination is required which looks at broader regions and this coordination requires analysis of the spatial patterns of natural resources. Towards this end, the ultimate goal of Passaic County was to develop and implement an open space and natural resource management plan which protects the resources valued by citizens of the county. Four objectives were defined and accomplished to meet the Center for Remote Sensing and Spatial Analysis' supportive role. They were: I) design a database which would serve the natural resource planning needs of the county; II) Assemble that database, interpret satellite images, acquire data in digital form, convert analog data to digital form and incorporate digital and digitized data into the database; III) Perform initial analysis using the GIS database; and IV) Transfer the database and technology to the Passaic County Planning Department.CRSSA Publication No. P-17518-1-93supported by state funds and funding from the US Department of Agriculture, Forest ServiceSource document provided by CRSSA (Center for Remote Sensing and Spatial Analysis)
