New Jersey beach profile network 2012 annual report on shoreline changes in New Jersey, in the four coastal counties, Raritan Bay to Delaware Bay

The New Jersey Beach Profile Network (NJBPN) provides local to regional information on coastal zone changes and is designed to document storm-related damage assessments to the New Jersey shoreline. The NJBPN includes observations on beach changes along the coastline and offers a means to determine both rapid seasonal changes and long-term trends in shoreline position or beach volume. This year is unique in that Hurricane Sandy had such a profound impact on the beach/dune systems of the State, especially in Monmouth and Ocean Counties. Therefore, most of the traditional remarks have been set aside in favor of a focus on what worked, how well things did or did not work to protect or defend public and private development in each county. The information collected consists of photographs of the beach/dune system at each site, a topographic profile of the dune, beach and seafloor to a minimum depth of 14-16 feet, and field notes on significant geologic changes.The New Jersey Beach Profile Network (NJBPN
