In accordance with the federal Clean Water Act, New Jersey developed the 2002 Integrated List of Waterbodies, addressing the overall water quality of the state's waters and identifying impaired waterbodies for which Total Maximum Daily Loads (TMDLs) may be necessary. The list identified several waterbodies in the Atlantic Water Region as being impaired by pathogens, as indicated by the presence of fecal coliform concentrations in excess of standards. This report establishes 31 TMDLs addressing fecal coliform loads in waterbodies in the Atlantic Water Region.
