Notice Regarding Wildlife Impacted by Oil or Unidentified Spills in New Jersey

Previous oil spills on the New Jersey shoreline have provided the opportunity to identify potential systematic response issues with respect to oiled wildlife. During a spill, various individuals, all with the best of intentions, have begun removing and assisting affected wildlife. Several concerns have surfaced from these actions, including the need for better communication between the DEP Bureau of Emergency Response, Division of Fish and Wildlife, wildlife rehabilitators, and the public. The purpose of this document is to inform organizations and/or individuals of the protocols and procedures developed pertaining to such emergencies. These procedures were developed to ensure the safety and health of all those involved and to prevent any further damages or concerns. For those who may be interested in assisting during such emergencies, please consider the requirements and/or recommendations designed to address potential health and legal concerns put forth in this document
