Jersey City has always been and still is one of the most ethnically diverse communities in the United States. It has been home to immigrants from six continents and almost every country on earth. This collection presents material relating to the first wave of European immigrants, the Dutch, who established the settlements that would become Jersey City, the oldest in the state, in the 1630s. The collection documents the history of the Dutch community through the 18th and 19th centuries through genealogies, church histories, and photographs, as well as handwritten documents dating as far back as the 17th Century
