Intestinal intussusception as the most commonly found cause of obstruction of the gastrointestinal tract in children from 3 months to 3 years old

Następstwem tego procesu często jest martwica, która może stać się przyczyną perforacji jelita, wywołując zapalenie otrzewnej i wstrząs septyczny. Materiał i metody: Celem pracy było ustalenie płci i wieku dzieci, u których wystąpiło wgłobienie jelit, miesiąca w roku, w którym wgłobienie powstało, czasu wystąpienia pierwszych objawów oraz określenie częstości wdrożenia leczenia zachowawczego lub operacyjnego, mającego na celu odgłobienie. Badanie przeprowadzono na grupie 176 dzieci z wgłobieniem jelit, hospitalizowanych w Klinice Chirurgii Uniwersyteckiego Szpitala Dziecięcego w Krakowie, w latach 2010–2014. Wyniki i wnioski: Z analizy dokumentów medycznych wynika, że częściej chorują chłopcy między pierwszym a trzecim rokiem życia, w okresie letnim i jesiennym. Najczęściej występującą postacią było wgłobienie krętniczo-kątnicze. Leczenie zachowawcze za pomocą wlewu odgłobiającego było częściej stosowane niż operacyjne.Introduction: Intussusception is based on a telescopic movement of the proximal into the distal part of the intestine, leading to compressions of the proximal mesenteric vessels. The consequence of this process is often necrosis, leading in turn to bowel perforation, peritonitis, and septic shock. Material and methods: The aim of the study was to determine the gender and age of children who have had intussusception, the month of the year in which intussusception was detected, the time the first symptoms and the frequency of implementation of conservative treatment or surgery. The study was conducted on 176 children with intussusception who were hospitalized at the University Children’s Hospital in the Department of Surgery in Krakow, in the years 2010–2014. Results and conclusions: The analysis of medical documents showed that boys between the first and third year of life are ill most often during the summer and autumn. The most common form was ileocaecal intussusception. Conservative treatment using infusion was more often used than surgical
