⁶⁵Zn-glutathione: Biodistribution and effect of carrier zinc on pancreas uptake.

A complex of 65 Zn with glutathione (GSH) was prepared, and the labelling efficiency and the in vitro stability were tested by ITLC. The biological distribution was studied in both mice and rats. The effect of administration of stable Zn-GSH simultaneously with, or previous to 65 Zn-GSH administration was studied in two groups of rats. The results indicated a high uptake of 65 Zn-GSH by mouse pancreas (9.08 ± 0.76%, at 1 h) and a pancreas:liver concentration ratio of 2.77 ± 0.38 at this time. In rats the highest uptake was obtained at 1.5 h with a value of 3.72 ± 0.54% and a pancreas:liver ratio of 1.24 ± 0.15. Previous administration of stable zinc was more effective in increasing the pancreas uptake (max. 5.71 ± 1.08%) and the pancreas: liver concentration ratio (max. 2.12 ± 0.36) than simultaneous administration. © 1981, Pergamon Press Ltd.
