Therapeutic vaccination is a promising strategy to treat chronic hepatitis B (CHB). In the present work a strategy based on viral proteins combined with adjuvants as well as recombinant Modified Vaccinia Ankara virus expressing hepatitis B virus proteins was successfully developed. It allows the induction of specific T cell responses as well as antibodies in an animal model for CHB. This provides a promising scheme for therapeutic vaccination in future clinical trials
