Control of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and polychlorinated dibenzofurans (PCDD/Fs) in emissions and thermal residues from incinerators has been a cause of public concern for more than one decade. Recently, several studies showed that other persistent organic pollutants (Pops) such as coplanar polychlorinated biphenyls (co-PCBs) also have dioxin-like activity and are released from incinerators.
