Improvements in coupling capillary electrophoresis online to inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry are described in the field of selenium speciation. Experiments are performed for reduction bf analysis time and improvements in the efficiency of the interface. This is performed by a differentiation of the separation and detection stages. Selenium species are monitored for detection limits and peak broadening, The optimized system is then applied to selenium speciation in a breast milk sample of early lactation
