The maintenance of adtult hippocampal stem cells, which is important to ensure lifelong proper hippocampal function, is still not fully understood. This work investigates the role of the Notch signalling pathway during adult hippocampal stem cell maintenance. Analysis revealed that the transcription factor Sox2, is a direct target of canonical Notch signalling. Hippocampal stem cell specific conditional knockout of the transcription factor RBPJκ resulted in the loss of Sox2 expression and hippocampal stem cells in vivo. These results show that Notch/RBPJκ signalling is important for adult hippocampal stem cell maintenance
